I wrote this bluesy shuffle for the Oakland public school music teachers’ big band, hence the title “Government Work.” Though the chart has been performed many times by the music teachers, the material stays within the technical means of high school players. Solo changes are indicated in Alto 1, Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Trumpet 4, Trombone 1. Trumpet 1 goes to Bb above the staff, Trombone 1 goes to Gb above the staff.
